The Kentish Tasmania (c1830) situated in the rural and historic midlands town of Oatlands provides a terrific base to explore the numerous attractions in the area. It is close to equal distance from Hobart and Launceston in the captivating Midlands or what we are now calling the heartlands along the Heritage Highway. The town is the most intact Georgian town in Australia, with some 87 original sandstone buildings dating back to the early 1830s. Almost 200 years of history, excellent photographic opportunities and the ideal Tassie cold in winter warm in summer climate.

Dining

We celebrate in the pleasure of fresh Tasmanian produce, honour a commitment to customer service, and display a generosity of spirit. Already renowned across Tasmania for our range of pies, the new Kentish Tasmania team are taking it next level. Combining locally sourced artisan produced goods from all over the state with our very own in-house baked range and topped off with Straight Up roasters – get ready to have all of your hearts coffee, cakes, pies, pastries and hand-baked goods desires come true.

Bar

Steeped in history but quietly forgotten The Kentish Tasmania oversized u-shaped bar has a new lease on life with its shiny new beer taps – first ones in centuries. Whether you are looking for a quiet drink and snack with friends, an after-work catch up, or a celebratory toast, everyone is welcome. In winter, the fireplace will be roaring, and the pool table waits in readiness. With a strong emphasis on featuring the tastes of Tasmania, we are sure we will have something cold or warm that’s just right for you.

Accomodation

Set for the next stage of the renovations, the quintessential country-style pub rooms offer the ideal stay for any Oatlands stopover.

Where It All Began

Built-in 1832 with a licence granted in 1834 The Kentish Tasmania is embarking on yet another journey in its nearly 200 year lifetime. Our own small country pub project, restoring the hotel to its former glory and reestablishing its vital role as the social hub of Oatlands Tasmania. All the while helping to add to the re-invigoration of this bypassed historic town steeped in authentically filled colonial character and architecture reflected in the many original sandstone buildings. A country pub is the heart of the community it serves.
