Description

There’s always something happening at Irish with regular themed event nights and live
music every night of the week.

The Irish, established 1835 At a time, when flocks of wild ducks were no infrequent visitors to the Brickfields, and Melbourne town was in its infancy, emancipated convict Josiah Pitcher decided to share his passion for wine and ale with Launceston. Naming his establishment The Hibernia Hotel, after the Latin name for the island of Ireland and the vessel, Hibernia, on which he was transported to serve out a life sentence for felony, Mr Pitcher introduced a legacy which still continues, more than 170 years later. Now a famous Launceston institution, The Irish 1835, pays homage to our city’s historical and colonial past and, in particular, Tasmania’s Irish connection.
We think old Josiah’s paid his dues, don’t you?
