We are a very small independent brewery and distillery in Hobart, focused on producing colonial style ales and a wide range of spirits. Head Brewer, owner and chief bottle washer, Steve Brooks has taken his love of ale and history and combined them to produce small batch specialty ales for Tasmanian drinkers. Head Distiller and lead floor-mopper Adam Brooks, is obsessive about spirits, particularly whisky.
We exist to pay homage to Tasmania’s rich brewing history. We brew in one of Tasmania’s oldest brewery buildings. We are Hobart’s oldest craft brewery, and Hobart’s only brewery & distillery.
We are an actual brewery, not a contractor. This means we make our own beer, and we make our own wash for our spirits. Being a real bricks and mortar producer means that we are heavily invested in making the best products we can. It means our ales and lagers are always fresh and available; our facilities are accessible to visit, and wholesale customers are able to participate in the brewing process. We will be here next week and the one after! We are not a venue, so we are not a retail competitor for our wholesale customers . There’s a diversity of choice and the advantage of small batch rarity. We can produce ‘something special’ as a one-off, exclusive release.
A Small Family Business
Stephen and Adam are a father and son team who work to create the best products possible. Steve produces all the beers, focusing on brewing to Hobart’s colonial brewing laws. Adam produces all of the spirits, and has been making traditional and historical drinks, but is also constantly experimenting with new techniques.
Our range is only available at our cellar door, at selected local venues, right here online and through Hobart Town Fine Beverages, our Salamanca Market stall, where you can meet the makers, and engage with us about our range and production philosophy.
