Brinktop Vineyard

Gill and Todd Goebel have been growing grapes and making wine in the Coal River Valley, Tasmania, since 1999.  Brinktop is their second venture, started when they purchased an old farm called Killara located between the village of Richmond and Sorell.

The property is ideal for viticulture. It has a long ridge affording gentle, east-north-east facing slopes and excellent dolerite soils that had been used for grazing pig, dairy cows and sheep for the previous 100 years. Being in the Coal River Valley it is a warmer site but the slopes are cooled each afternoon during the growing season by the sea breezes coming straight off nearby Frederick Henry Bay. 

Eight hectares are now planted out mainly to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay leaving a hectare each for Tempranillo and Syrah.   Brinktop wine is made by Todd at the onsite winery.

Brinktop Wine Club

Join the Brinktop Wine Club to receive six bottles of Brinktop wines delivered to your door in May and November each year for $174 each delivery. Your six pack will be a selection from our Sparkling Rosé, Rosé, Chardonnay, Pinot Noirs and Tempranillo but let us know your preferences and we will take these into account. Call in any Friday afternoon between 12 noon to 5pm to meet Gill and Todd who offer wine tastings and sales in the winery.  If you can’t make Friday afternoon phone to make an appointment – 0407 224543. 

Brinktop wines on offer include Sparkling Rosé, Rosé, Chardonnay, a selection of Pinot Noirs and Tempranillo – all subject to availability.  Syrah is coming soon. 

Depending on the time of year we may be racking the wine, plunging ferments, pressing the juice out of the ferments, pumping to barrel.  Barrel samples may be available to give you a sneak preview of what is coming next.

VISITOR ACCOMMODATION

The newly renovated Winemakers’ Cottage at Brinktop can be booked via Airbnb.  We think it’s an ideal place for a romantic getaway but there are two bedrooms, one bathroom, kitchen/ living area and laundry so room for more. All guests receive a complimentary bottle of Brinktop wine and winery tour.
