Enjoy the freshest seafood Tasmania has to offer, with live, cooked Southern Rock Lobster, local freshly shucked oysters, freshly caught fish, premium fish and chips, and our famous lobster roll. Overlooking the majestic water in Bicheno Tasmania where our lovely fresh seafood is sourced from. We would love to share our amazing produce with you.

The Lobster Shack currently offers a range of ready-to-eat fresh local seafood, including lobsters, oysters, prawns, mussels, octopus and salmon, both in individual servings and shared platters. Additionally, customers can select from a variety of seasonal eats, such as fresh sushi, sashimi and lobster rolls.

Visitors can choose to enjoy their seafood at the Shack or by the waterfront, or alternatively they can take it away and indulge in the privacy of their own homes or accommodation.

Please note our produce is fresh and supply can be limited by both season and catch.  To avoid disappointment, we recommend ordering ahead.

No bookings are required however if your group is larger than 10, it would be good to phone ahead to avoid any disappointment.

The Lobster Shack Tasmania opened in 2017 as new business providing a unique and enticing Tasmanian seafood experience not seen anywhere else in the state. 

The idea for the Lobster Shack came about through Marcus and Sara’s vision to expand their existing business Trigonia – which currently operates as a live Southern Rock Lobster export processing facility – into a farm-gate experience, allowing people to enjoy their premium seafood products on site. 

F R E S H L O B S T E R – our Southern Rock Lobsters are held live in our tanks, caught by local Fishermen and cooked fresh daily by us. Nothing is better than the delicate, sweet taste of this world famous crustacean, with a hint of lemon juice and a glass of sparkling come and celebrate the finer things in life.

Marcus and Sara became aware that visitors to the region were often seeking ready-to-eat, fresh local seafood, but were finding it surprisingly difficult to source. 

The business is currently in a period of exciting transformation from a modest fresh seafood retail outlet, to an inviting dine-in and take-away restaurant, featuring an educational tourism experience that tells the history of the Tasmanian seafood—in particular, the lobster industry.

Sara and Marcus are currently hard at work, overseeing a major redevelopment of the existing site, which includes a new dining area, beautifully presented aquariums to feature live lobster and fish, as well as a small maritime museum and viewing deck overlooking Bicheno’s iconic Gulch.

Located on the iconic ‘Gulch’ in the picturesque seaside town of Bicheno on Tasmania’s East Coast, the Lobster Shack offers more than just delicious seafood.  

Our maritime museum aims to educate people about the history of the seafood industry in Tasmania and how Bicheno has developed from a thriving fishing port to what it is today. Marcus and Sara believe Tasmania’s sustainable, well managed seafood industry deserves and indeed needs to be promoted to people from across the globe.  

The viewing deck looks out to the Governor Island Marine Reserve, renowned for its spectacular underwater scenery. This area is recognised as one of the best and most temperate diving locations in Australia, with kelp-covered reefs and stunning sponge gardens. 

There is no question the Lobster Shack Tasmania has enhanced the visitor experience to Bicheno and the next exciting phase of development will see the business transform into a truly unique and exclusive food and retail player in the East Coast tourism industry.
