About Us
John West Turvey arrived in Van Diemen’s Land as a convict in 1823, having been transported from England for sheep stealing. Given a ticket of leave in 1833, he settled at Prosser Plains in Buckland. The Turvey family has been sheep farmers and wool growers in Tasmania ever since and is renowned in the district for warm hospitality.
You will find five members of the Turvey family working at Twamley Farm. Derek and Alistair run the agri-business, whilst Lona, Elizabeth and Angela aim to share with those who visit our love of historic buildings and passion for the countryside in which we live. The Stable, Farm Pod, Shearers Hut and The Storekeeper’s offer a unique and authentic stay in rural Tasmania.
Feel free to bush walk, trout fish, shoot some clay targets, ride a bike or just relax and wander at Twamley Farm. We hope you truly enjoy your stay and discover something unique beyond the beautiful beaches and scenery of the East Coast Wine Trail.a
