Wedding Venue + Farm + Catering & Styling Port Arthur
Average Reviews
Description
A unique wedding venue, set on 100 acres of farm land located at Safety Cove on the Tasman Peninsula, near Port Arthur on the pristine coastline of Southern Tasmania.
The Old Farm is a unique coastal property that operates as a working cattle farm and is also a boutique wedding venue. A short hour and a half drive from Hobart, The Old Farm is nestled at the end of the Tasman Peninsula, offering an authentic location for weddings.
Accessed by a private gravel driveway where guests will see the cattle quietly grazing the paddocks, the sheltered central courtyard is revealed. The Old Farm’s courtyard features established pines, rustic timber outbuildings, the original farm house and wide expanse of green lawn.
The courtyard is bordered by the colonial era, clay brick and sandstone walls and the main barn which date back to the mid 1800’s. The barn features a 210 square metre polished Tas Oak floor and high ceilings with exposed original timber beams. While the courtyard provides shelter, there are view windows through to the surrounding farm land and eucalypt trees.
The property is set back from the beach at Safety Cove, which enjoys views of the wild and rugged coastline of Southern Tasmania, including the renowned Tasman Island and Cape Pillar.
Weddings
The venue incorporates the barn as well as the courtyard and immediate paddocks, creating a space that is ideal for customising a unique setting of your own. The barn and courtyard can be styled as desired; whether your preference is for a casual stand up gathering or a fully seated dinner.
The Beck Family who own The Old Farm only share the venue for a limited number of dates each Summer. The venue is available as a fully coordinated and styled event through Bek Burrows, our exclusive coordinator and stylist of The Old Farm, or as a DIY option where you can make all your own arrangements.
You’re welcome to arrange your own caterers and suppliers and coordinate the day yourselves, perhaps with the support of your family and friends.
Please note if you choose to go with the DIY hire option for your wedding, engaging alternate stylists and planners/coordinators to assist you is not an option, due to The Beck Family’s arrangement with Bek Burrows.
Farming
The Old Farm is made up of historic arable land, initially cleared of native vegetation and then hand tilled by convict labour during settlement in the late 1800s.
The Beck Family now farm beef and produce of premium quality using heirloom seeds and rare breed genetics. Shorthorn and Hereford breed cattle have been run on the property since the family purchased The Old Farm. Recently the Beck Family have also expanded in growing seasonal produce including tomatoes, pumpkins and potatoes.
The Old Farm’s beef and fresh produce is then supplied to the family’s restaurant, the Riverfront Restaurant & Bar. The Beck Family also have a seasonal stall at Hobart’s Farm Gate Market, selling their heirloom variety pumpkins. Produce is often featured in Backyard Bounty’s vegie boxes.
