About Us
It’s a comfortable and scenic 90-minute drive south from Hobart to Tahune, one of southern Tasmania’s must-see attractions.
At Tahune Forest Adventures you can walk high above the forest canopy and share the lives of the forest giants from up-close, looking down to the place where the wild waters of the Huon and Picton Rivers mingle. The 600-metre walkway ends at a spectacular cantilevered platform 50 metres above the riverbank, with views extending to the mountains of the World Heritage Area.
Here you can soar like an eagle from a lofty perch high in the treetops, feeling the wind beneath your wings as you dip and swoop on a thrilling 400–metre cable hang-gliding flight across the Huon River.
The Huon Pine Walk is easily managed by most people and is the one of the best places in Tasmania to see young and mature Huon pines growing in their natural riverine rainforest environment.
Then follow the forest and riverside trail to the Swinging Bridges track, crossing two suspension bridges across the rushing waters of the Picton and Huon Rivers. The churning, tannin-coloured water beneath your feet began as rain and snow, deep in the Southwest wilderness.
Take a break to enjoy local Tasmanian produce, try Tasmanian salmon and honey and taste the Huon Valley’s wonderful cool-climate wines and local ciders. Pause for a snack, light meal, tea, coffee or an ice cream. Browse in the gift shop and choose a piece of Huon pine with its unique scent to remind you of your visit.
Mobility Access
All mobility levels can enjoy the stunning views from the Airwalk. While there are 104 steps to reach the entrance of the structure, we do have a shuttle bus that may be available upon request. This shuttle bus will bypass the steps and take you directly to the Airwalk. If this is something you require, please call ahead of time to confirm the bus is running on the day you plan to arrive.
Our Huon Pine Walk boasts a boardwalk that is suitable for wheelchairs and electric scooters*. The track runs along the riverbank to the most accessible stand of Huon pines in the world.
*If needed, Tahune Adventures has a wheelchair that is available for hire.
