James Amos – Owner & Operator
Let me introduce myself

I am a seventh-generation descendant of one of the original East Coast settlers, John Amos, who arrived in Van Diemen’s Land on the ship Emerald, in 1821. My family still farms the historic property, Cranbrook Estate. For my logo for Freycinet Coast Tours, I chose ‘The Hazards’ mountain range, featuring Mount Amos, as it was named after my forebears.

My life experiences have all contributed to my interest in and knowledge of the wine industry.  I have  studied viticulture, which gives me an understanding of how the production phase of the industry works. I’ve used this training  to help with pruning, maintaining and harvesting grapes from my family’s vineyard. I have worked in the hospitality industry for the last eight years, promoting and selling our local East Coast wines. I am also a keen traveller, being fortunate to have the opportunity to visit different wine and spirit regions around the world.

I am very passionate about our scenic East Coast of Tasmania and really enjoy showing people around the area that I have grown up in. The vineyard owners are all well known to me. With this knowledge, I have created different two tours for you, featuring the southern and the central region of the East Coast Wine Trail. These tours explore the award winning wines, the gourmet produce, spectacular scenery and history of the Freycinet Coast.

All of the tasting destinations on Freycinet Coast Tours have been chosen to showcase the finest quality wines and produce of the East Coast region of Tasmania. The selection of boutique vineyards and farm gates, are all family owned and operated.  They are located on historic farms, many with heritage buildings, with stunning rural or marine views.

So, if you would like a friendly guide, with local knowledge and a love of great wine and good food, then join me on one of my tours.
